I’ve always enjoyed movies about Cons and Con men, so when I started playing EVE my inner Con Man got some ideas…
The first Con I did was the one you will see in this video and it is based on the most basic foundation of every con…
That is, that virtually every Con exploits Greed. An honest man can’t be conned!
It’s Greed that pushes the mark to take completely illogical risks and give the con man money. Without greed Cons don’t happen.
Turns out most scammers are motivated by greed and almost all of them are just copying other scams. Most scammers actually suck at scamming!
This equals opportunity for players like me that have studied the art of the Con!

Most scams in EVE are very unoriginal, short sighted, and largely ineffective. A true con/scam requires more depth. In my upcoming Scam Guide you will learn scams that can pull 10′s and possibly even 100′s of billions of ISK. These are the scams no one talks about, but a few top players use to generate massive amounts of ISK.
Have you ever been camped in station by pirates or nasty war targets? If so then this is a must read as it will show you a couple of tricks that are important for your survival!
Picking the best home station while at war:
Not all stations are equal, some stations have a large dock radius (the distance from the physical station before your overview shows your distance greater than zero) while others have very small doc radius (i.e. the main trading station in Dodixie) .
The key is to find a station with a large doc radius; you can do this by warping to the station and looking at the distance between yourself and the station. If you warp onto or very close to the physical station the doc radius is small if you warp around 50km off the station (your overview will not show 50km, you will have to guesstimate ) then it has a large doc radius.
Creating an undock “Insta” warp point:
So you have found the station that you are going to use as your base during the war, it’s now time to create undock points away from the station. I create at least two; one 250km from station and the other around 1,000km from station (off grid).
This best done in a fast ship such as an interceptor; undock from the station make sure you are not moving off on an angle you want to keep the mouth of the station in a straight line and micro-warp away and bookmark these points.
Undocking:
Now that you are sitting in a large dock radius station with war targets (WT) in system, then it’s time to see if they are outside camping!
Undock from station and do not click or touch anything when the undock loading screen disappears and the EVE image loads hold down ctrl then press space your ship will start to stop while still being invulnerable for 30 secs due to the session timer (make sure your session timer is showing on your EVE client) once your session timer has finished you can dock safely or if the war targets are nowhere in sight you can warp off to your “insta” points.
Using the directional scanner is one of the most important skills in the game, if not the most important. If you want to be a solo pvper or even a fleet tackler you must get good at using the directional scanner.
The directional scanner is both a offensive and defensive skill. It’s all about knowing what is around you and having “situational awareness.”
The more you know about your battlespace the better you will do, period!
In the following video I cover all the basics of using your directional scanner as well as some more advanced tips and tricks.
The most basic things you need to understand are than it works on range and direction. Your maximum range is about 14au and you can alter the angle and direction of your scanner to find the range and direction of the target.
The absolute best way to learn is to go to high security space and start scanning miners in belts. Do this over and over until you can find them very quickly. Then move on to finding people in anomalies using the tips in the video. Also, make sure you get your overview settings setup in a way that helps you to scan faster.
With every major patch I try to do an article on how it will effect Pro players in the game. Sadly, Incarna is barely worth the time.
Here’s Why…
Incarna is basically, the first step toward CCP’s goal of making EVE Online more like WoW so that everyone can walk around stations in their rare clothes and brag about how elite their fashion accessories are while chatting all day.
What worries me is that this plus the addition of Dust will make EVE, well boring.
I like to blow stuff up and I can’t do that if everyone’s chatting inside stations! People already hide in stations too long.
Anyways, enough of my rant here are the changes…
You get a captains quarters, so you can put clothes on and well… Yeah, boring.
They updated the noob tutorial. Hopefully making the learning curve a little less steep?
You can pay cash to buy rare clothing and accessories so your character can look “hot” while PVPing. Yawn
Mission rats will ECM you less. A good change for missioners and ratters.
Jumpbridge Mechanics have been changed. This is the only thing interesting about this patch.
Amarr Cruisers are having their looks but not stats upgraded. They could use some tweaking because T1 Amarr cruisers kinda suck compared to other races.
Some performance improvements.
Let’s talk about the only one that will affect us… Jumpbridges
Now you will only need one jumpbridge per system. This means some tactics that were used for camping Jumpbridges will no longer work (namely a way to bubble on grid but out of POS range).
However, all inbound and outbound traffic will use the same Jumpbridge, so other tactics become more viable. I will be trying some new tactics to see what I can do with this.
UPDATE 6/22/11: I think I misunderstood this change. From what I’m hear the gates still only work one way, meaning that if someone wants to use jump bridges they will have to jump through a traditional gate to get to another system, before using the out jumpbridge. If this is the case, then it’s a big nerf to jump bridges and will tip the scales back in favor of small groups like mine. This system is much easier to harrass and get kills from, plus it will make it harder for the mega blobs of null sec to counter small gangs. Overall a very good move by CCP!
Perhaps bombing the jump bridge before ships can warp away?
Incarna is planned to be released on June 21st… Make sure you have some long training planned before that, just in case.
Most players in EVE follow a predictable path from Carebear to PVPer.
Typically, a player starts out with mining and missioning, then maybe they go “anti-pirate” for awhile (which doesn’t really work until you are better than the pirates), then they slowly fall into piracy themselves.
The funny part about EVE is that most players start out by thinking that PVP and Piracy are morally wrong, yet they end up becoming pirates themselves.
EVE seems to bring out everyone’s inner Griefer for some reason…
I admit to doing my share of griefing. Everything from can flipping noobs to gate camping to ganking people in highsec. I’ve done it and I’ve enjoyed it.
BUT… I like to believe there is some Honor in EVE and I have a few rules that I never break no matter what.
Those are:
Always Honor a 1vs1 that has been agreed on.
Always Honor Ransoms.
The biggest reason for this is because if you don’t honor them you will never get them. If someone has been ransomed in the past and the pirate did not honor the ransom, they will never pay another ransom. If someone has been burned in a 1v1 they will likely never do another.
I think as a whole all of EVE should honor these two rules, because they benefit everyone.
Example: I ransomed an Orca for 180 Million ISK (cheap I know) with my 1 million skill point alt recently.
