NEW PVP Pirate Faction Frigate Fits for the Kronos Expansion

The Kronos Expansion was released earlier this month and part of that change was a re-balance of the Pirate Faction Ships. Many of these ships have long gone unused because of their strange bonuses and poor fitting stats.

Ships like the Cruor and Succubus were largely ignored by most people because in practice they were virtually useless. Because of this CCP decided to Buff them so they could compete at the level of the Dramiel and Daredevil.

I have covered the Dramiel already in the Frigate PRO Guide and both it and the Daredevil were pretty much unchanged this expansion, so I will leave them out.

Note: All of these fits are shown WITHOUT Implants, Drugs, or Links. Adding them would naturally improve performance.

The WORM

Along with all the other Guristas Ships the Worm got a specialized Drone Bonus. This gives the worm a 300% Bonus to Light Drone Damage and Hitpoints making it a Drone Monster. The Catch however is that you can only put out 2 Light Drones at a time. Still, that bonus allows you to do very serious and very flexible DPS.

This first fitting like many of the fits I came up with is geared toward FW (Faction Warfare) fighting. The reason for this is because Frigate PVP is currently the most healthy in FW. I personally prefer roaming Null in a Frigate, but FW delivers more fights, and a set of rules that can be exploited to make fights more predictable and less blobby.

Your primary DPS is from Drones which are virtually range independent, supplemented by Rockets which work very well in scram range. You Tank is better than most frigs, however you have no reason to be up close (under 5km) therefore it is best to Scram Kite (Kite within Scram Range) by Scramming your target and attempting to stay at around 7km.

Your speed isn't the greatest and you lack a web so be careful about people escaping, or a very high DPS ship getting right on top of you (Gank Algos for example).

Flexibility and very nasty drones make this a ship that will win most 1vs1 frigate fights you find, however, it may be difficult to get someone to fight you on purpose.

Next up is the Kiting fit I would typically use to roam Null Sec hunting other frigates, some cruisers, and any other targets of opportunity. Tactics are to kite out around 18-20km with Rockets and Web off. Keep your Web Primed to be Overloaded so you can back off people chasing you with the 13km range. Rockets are only used when it's advantageous to go in close.

The Cruor

The Cruor is a very strange ship. Or maybe I should say it's confused because it's bonuses are for both Web Range and Nos/Neut Amount. Small Energy Neutralizer' and Nosferatus are limited to a range of about 6 km (6.6 nos and 6.3 neut) while your Web is effective at 20km for a T2 Web.

So what kind of ship is this? A Kite that webs at 20km and dictates range? or a Brawler that nukes the capacitor of it's enemies?

Another important thing that was changed on the Cruor was the actual behavior of the Nos when fitted to the Cruor. The Nos on a Cruor will act the way it did long ago before the Nos Nerf. Meaning your Nos will suck your opponents capacitor until it is empty, without any regard to your capacitor. This means they are once again reliable sources of Capacitor as well as Cap Warfare Weapons.

So do we Kite or Brawl? I fitted up both and I'll let you decide...

Tactics with Kite are to orbit at 16-18km while pointing and webbing, then just wear your opponent down. You DPS and Tank are weak but as long as you make the fight a chess match of range control you will do well. I would personally hunt some Interceptors with this, but I would be VERY careful about a getting Scrammed.

The Brawler is meant to get up on top of the target and neut the hell out of them. This works best on ships with Active Guns like Hybrids and Lasers. An Enyo for example would last less than 20 seconds before he would be unable to use his guns against you anymore. Just remember to Stagger Your Neuts.

The Succubus

Finally we have the Succubus which can be summarized as DPS with a kick ass Afterburner. This is because it receives a 150% bonus to Energy Turret DPS and a 100% (at level 5) bonus to Afterburner speed.

I see the the Afterburner Bonus pair with Lasers and immediate think Scram Kite because of the range flexibility of the Lasers and ability to dictate range on almost everything you will encounter. This would work well in FW where you would keep your opponent at 7-8km and nuke him using scorch.

Next up is a Roaming fit, meant for taking down larger prey. This is a Dual Prop ship meaning it has both a MWD and AB. The reason and tactics for this are described in the Frigate PRO Guide, but basically it allows you to get in fast, and then escape when things go bad.

I could easily see this ship taking down Tier 3 Battlecruisers like the Talos and Tornado, as well as many cruisers and other ships.

The fittings above can lead to some very awesome PVP, but keep in mind Fittings alone do not equal success (nor does ISK). You need to know how to fly the ships, how to kill targets without getting blobbed, and how make the most of your ship to get an edge. You can learn all of those things in The Frigate PRO Guide and I highly suggest you check it out now and see why it's so highly rated on the Testimonials Page.
